In a match delayed by lightning, the Columbus East girls tennis team opened the Hoosier Hills Conference tournament with a 5-0 win against Jennings County. Once the 75-minute delay was finally over, East wasted no time taking care of business on the court.

Star Wars fans waited in line for hours in advance outside of the Cinema 5 Theater in Columbus to purchase tickets to the new film, “Episode 1: The Phantom Menace,” the first such production in 16 years.
1974
More than 100 children and adults from Bartholomew, Brown, Jackson, Jennings and Decatur counties participated in the annual Special Olympics in Columbus. Events including relay races, 50-yard dashes and a softball throw were sponsored locally by the Columbus Jaycees, with help from the Tri Kappa and Beta Sigma Phi sororities at Columbus North High School.
