Prep sports notebook: Locals named Academic All-State, All-Conference

The Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches has announced several local athletes to its All-Academic Team.

For the boys, Columbus North’s Jack Cooper, Frankie Polyak, Ben Stevens and Neal White; Jennings County’s Derek Ross and Lain Ernstes; Brown County’s Elijah Webb and South Decatur’s Damon Gearhart were named to the first team. North’s Derek Arau-Ortiz, Sam Brown, Matt Burge, Santi DeLuna, Amit Gangadhara and Jonny Klaus were honorable mention.

For the girls, North’s Macy Eaton, Kenzie Meyer and Kenzie Pendleton are on the first team. North’s Abbi Schiefer, Kennedy Gallentine and Lydia Reed; Hauser’s Grace Hattabaugh; Jennings’ Cheyeanna Leslie and Kennedy Woods and Brown County’s Kayliegh Austin were honorable mention.

Bull Dogs make All-State Academics in tennis

The Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association released its All-State Academic Team.

Columbus North’s Lison Cloteaux was named to the Individual Academic All-State. North made the Team Academic All-State.

Locals named SCAI Academic All-State

Edinburgh’s Kyah Streeval was named to the Academic All-State Team by the Softball Coaches Association of Indiana. Jennings County’s Alexis Carson was honorable mention.

Hauser and Jennings County were named to the Team Academic All-State.

Bull Dogs named All-Conference Indiana

Several members of the Conference Indiana champion Columbus North baseball, softball and girls tennis teams have been selected to the All-Conference teams.

Ryan Rayburn, Brock Kintner, Connor Hensley and Sam Perry made the baseball first team. Blake Osbourne and Jayce Emmitt made honorable mention.

Kelsey Lovelace, Bailee Scruggs, Peyton Morris and Miley McClellan made the softball first team. Morgan Jarvis and Summer Williams made honorable mention.

In tennis, Kathryn Wilson, Aya Saad, Annabelle Sun and Lucy Bergman made the first team.

Olympians, Panthers make All-HHC

Four local players have been named to the All-Hoosier Hills Conference softball team.

Columbus East’s Hermione Robinson and Baleigh Fish and Jennings County’s Kenzie Matern and Jillian Brauer are on the first team. Jennings’ Riley Byford and Maycie Ward made honorable mention.

The All-HHC baseball team has not yet been announced.

Jets, Cougars, Lancers named All-MHC

Several local players have been selected to this year’s All-Mid-Hoosier Conference teams in baseball and softball, and Hauser baseball coach Nate Long and softball coach Andy Brunner were named MHC Coaches of the Year after leading their teams to the conference titles.

In baseball, Hauser’s Kam Blair, Holden Pittman, Simeon Wasil and Stryker Gill; South Decatur’s Corey Nugent, Devin Pate and J.P. Scudder and Edinburgh’s Gabe Bennett and Avynn Whitaker were named to the first team. Hauser’s Lukas Christian and South Decatur’s Grady Scudder were honorable mention.

In softball, Hauser’s Lucie Asher, Izzy Brunner, Haylin Campbell, Maley Jordan and Paige McDaniel; Edinburgh’s Kyah Streeval, Alix Streeval and Kenna Streeval and South Decatur’s Molly Eden were named to the first team. Edinburgh’s Eloise Cox was honorable mention.

Hauser announces track awards

Colin Kistler and Kennedy Konradi have been named MVPs of the Hauser boys and girls track teams.

Kistler also was named the Leading Runner, and Luke Bruner was named Leading Field Events for the boys. Nolan Dailey was Most Improved, and Sam Taylor won the Mental Attitude Award.

Konradi also was named the Leading Runner, and Charleston Gelfius was named Leading Field Events for the girls. Grace Hattabaugh was Most Improved, and Louan Fage won the Mental Attitude Award.

Sample resigns as Eagles football coach

Colton Sample has resigned as Brown County football coach.

Sample went 6-25 in three seasons as head coach. The Eagles went 1-9 last year.

Foster to sign with Franklin College

Hauser senior Mattie Foster will hold a college signing ceremony in the school’s auditorium at 4 p.m. Friday.

Foster will play tennis at Franklin College.

South Decatur, Trinity learn destinations

The regional baseball pairings are set.

In Class A, South Decatur will take on Indianapolis Lutheran at Morristown at 1 p.m. Saturday. Also in Class A, Trinity Lutheran will take on South Central (Elizabeth) at Mitchell at 3 p.m. Saturday.

The winners will advance to the semistate round on June 8.
