Joseph Perkins // Columbus North junior golfer

Perkins fired a 74 and birdied the first hole of a playoff Friday to win medalist honors and lead the Bull Dogs to the team title at the Greensburg Sectional.

His performance last week: “I feel like I played pretty solid. I kept everything together mentally. I played the game I know how to play and kept a positive attitude and just kept playing.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I watch a little bit of golf on YouTube, and I eat a good breakfast.”

Favorite drink: “Shirley Temple”

Favorite food: “Sushi”

Favorite class: “English”

Favorite sports team: “Chicago Cubs”

Favorite athlete: “John Daly”

Role model: “My parents (Amanda and David Perkins)”

Best advice: “It’s all about the people, because you have to build good relationships with people. You never know what benefits you can gain by being nice to people and staying connected in the community.”

Athletics goal: “I’d like to make it to the state finals.”

If you could travel anywhere: “I’d probably go to Hilton Head Island because the beaches are great, and there’s a lot of good golf courses there.”

Tatum Brown

Brown won her Bedford North Lawrence Regional semifinal match in straight sets before falling in the final in the individual girls singles tournament.

Her performance last week: “I think I’ve done my best and taken great shots. It was definitely my best performance through the season.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “If anything, I just listen to Taylor Swift.”

Favorite drink: “Coffee”

Favorite food: “Fettucine Alfredo”

Favorite class: “Math or Calculus”

Favorite sports team: “Indiana University”

Favorite athlete: “Iga Swaitek”

Role model: “My older siblings (Tod, Hailey and Reagan Brown).”

Best advice: “Don’t give up. Injuries make you stronger. It just makes you think in a different way.’’

Athletics goal: “I wanted to break records in swimming and go as far as I could in tennis. I’m planning to do club tennis at IU.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Probably Australia. It would be cool to go to the Australian Open.”
