Pop-rock gospel singer Andy Avery held two free gospel concerts at New Hope Christian Church as he shared his faith and his journey of recovery from drug abuse. Avery’s band, Smokehouse, toured for four years in the 1980s with major rock acts KISS, Bon Jovi and Aerosmith.

1999

Local band Southern Justice was selected as the best country band in Kentuckiana by radio disc jockeys and talent scouts during a contest sponsored by Louisville radio station WAMZ and Coyote’s, a country-western bar in Louisville.

1974

Eleven local middle and high school students were among 50 from four other states attending a two-week summer orchestra workshop at Indiana State University. Students attending were John and Joseph Dickey, David Epperson, Richard Fenner, Teri Grasch, Jonette Ramey, Catherine, Joe and Lise Spurlock, and Jane Ann Stevens of Columbus, and Kenneth Grasch of Nashville.
