Mike Fields, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Fields, holds out potatoes and tomatoes grown from the same plant on June 27, 1974. The plant was a special hybrid for gardeners with little space.

Three same-sex couples became the first to legally marry in Bartholomew County after Clerk Tami Hines received legal approval to ignore gender designations on marriage license paperwork. Another seven same-sex couples also received marriage licenses, with ceremonies to occur later.
1999
Mark Walton of Columbus placed third in the three-axle class at the 1999 Indiana Truck Driving Championships held by the Indiana Motor Truck Association. Walton competed against 118 other drivers in six tests relating to driving maneuvers.
1974
Members of the Flower Lane Garden Club and their children cleaned and trimmed beds of iris, day lilies and other perennials at Mill Race Park. The flowers had been planted earlier in the year by club members.
