2014

Bartholomew County Purdue Extension Director and 4-H educator for youth development Erika Bonnett moved into a statewide 4-H role through Purdue University. Bonnett became the Purdue Extension science specialist.

1999

National Ice Co. Inc. at 542 Third St. was running at full capacity, making about 64 tons of ice per day. Company President Bill Weaver said the company sold more than 40,000 8-pound bags of ice over the Fourth of July weekend.

1974

Dave Rutt won first place in The Republic Summer Photo Contest with his photo of Pam Helmbrecht, Columbus East High School majorette. The photo was taken on high-speed Ektachrome film using a Pentax camera with a zoom lens.
