Michael Ervin Hover

COLUMBUS

On July 14th, 2024 at 2:58 pm Michael Ervin Hover (61) passed away peacefully at IU Hospice House Bloomington surrounded by loved ones, ending a brave battle with pancreatic cancer.

Mike was born to Michael James “Mick” and Sue Hover on October 14th, 1962 in Columbus, IN. He graduated from Edgewood High School class of 1981, then continued his studies at Vincennes University. He proudly served in the United States Navy as a Seabee.

Mike’s career began as a commercial carpenter. He later transitioned to an electrical estimator at Cassady Electric, proudly representing the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local #725 as a journeyman electrician, until his retirement at age 60.

Mike was a lifelong athlete. In high school, he was a member of the cross-country, track, and wrestling teams. While in the Navy, he ran as a member of the All-Navy Cross Country team. He maintained his passion for running into adulthood, completing the Chicago Marathon at age 42 with an incredible time of 3:10:40. He participated yearly in the Mill Race Half-Marathon in Columbus, Indiana.

Beyond his athletic pursuits, Mike found solace in the great outdoors. Whether hunting in the Hoosier National Forest or casting lines in the Florida Keys, he cherished nature’s beauty and serenity. His spirit will live on in these places.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Mick Hover. He is survived by his loving mother, Sue Hover, a devoted wife, Susie Hover, sisters Kim and Kristi, five children Jennifer, Carley, Blake, Austin, and Madison, numerous grandchildren who adored their PoPo, and mother-in-law Diane.

Mike leaves behind a wide circle of friends and colleagues who will dearly miss his bright smile and iconic laugh. His passing leaves a void in the lives of so many, but his memory will continue to inspire us all to live a life of generosity and integrity.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at the Upland Pump House in Columbus, IN on Sunday, August 11th from 1 pm to 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to IU Hospice House Bloomington, IN, or Columbus C.A.R.E.
