2014

The ninth annual Johnson-Witkemper Insurance Biggest Block Party Ever took place in downtown Columbus. The event included food, music and activities such as airbrush face painting. Music was provided by bands including Cottonpatch, Oddz R and Brown 25.

1999

Roger Nichter Construction Co. took apart the air conditioning ductwork in the Columbus home of John and Sandy Miller to rescue their cat, Pepper, who had found his way in through a pipe. Pepper emerged safely, though a little dusty, and was reunited with his owners.

1974

The Columbus Fire Department acquired a new $77,000 “Tele-squirt” fire engine, a combination snorkel-ladder truck, that was delivered to Station No. 4 on State Road 46. The truck was built by American LaFrance company and replaced the department’s 1939 Stutz.
