Members of Columbus’ Phi Beta Psi chapter recently celebrated a major achievement: the chapter won an award for raising the most money money in the nation per capita for cancer research.
Several members from the Columbus chapter were among 120 members representing 29 chapters from nine states last month at the national meeting in Denver.
The sorority this year presented $446,100 to six cancer research doctors, local member Alpha Aldredge said. She noted that the organization has donated nearly $12 million for cancer research since 1940.
The Phi chapter has been successful with its Designer Purse Bingos, events that take place twice each year, in April and September.
Tickets for the next event on September 24 will go on sale Saturday, Aug. 17, from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at The Commons conference room, 300 Washington St. Tickets are $30 for unreserved seating or $280 for a reserved table of eight.
