College sports notebook: Gilley helps Sycamores to victories

MEMPHIS — Cadence Gilley led Indiana State with three aces and had three digs in Friday’s four-set win against Arkansas-Pine Bluff the Bluff City Showdown in Memphis.

Gilley, a junior from Columbus East, recorded seven digs and two aces in Saturday’s three-set win against Lamar.

On Sunday, Cadence Gilley notched eight digs and one ace in a four-set loss to Memphis. Chloe Gilley, a freshman from East, added two digs for the Sycamores (3-5).

Bennett helps lead Knights to win

Sarah Bennett led Marian with four blocks and added five kills and three digs in Wednesday’s three-set Crossroads League win at Bethel.

Bennett, a junior from Columbus North, had seven kills and tied for the team-high for the Knights (12-2, 3-1) with two blocks in Saturday’s five-set Crossroads loss at Mount Vernon Nazarene.

Clark helps Bethany to victories

Andie Clark recorded seven digs and one ace for Bethany (West Virginia) Tuesday in a three-set win at Pitt.-Greensburg.

Clark, a junior from Hauser, notched eight digs and an ace in Thursday’s four-set loss at Waynesburg.

Clark had eight digs and led Bethany with five aces in Saturday’s four-set win against Lycoming. She added 13 digs and led Bethany (6-6) with three aces in Saturday’s four-set win against Carlow.

Parks, Huffman play in loss at Butler

INDIANAPOLIS — Malachi Parks, a senior from Columbus East, completed 4 of 6 passes for 32 yards and carried three times for 12 yards Saturday in Hanover’s 53-0 loss at Butler.

Blake Huffman, a senior from Columbus North, had four carries for six yards for the Panthers (0-2).

Blythe sees action in Centre win

DANVILLE, Ky. — Tyler Blythe caught two passes for 16 yards Saturday in Centre’s 17-14 win against Maryville (Tenn.).

Blythe, a sophomore from Columbus North, also had two two carries for three yards for the Colonels (2-0).

Russell makes Wildcat 8K debut

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Will Russell made his 8K debut for Kentucky Friday and finished 78th in the Southern Showcase.

Russell, a sophomore from Columbus North who ran for Xavier last season, ran 25 minutes, 23.22 seconds for 5 miles. He was the No. 7 runner for the Wildcats, who finished fourth as a team.

Mateo Mendez

Louisville’s Mateo Mendez, a sophomore from North, finished 185th in 26:23.65. He was the No. 12 runner for the Cardinals, who took sixth as a team.

Rumsey runs for Boilermakers

SAVOY, Ill. — Purdue’s Katherine Rumsey finished 95th Friday in the Big Ten Preview.

Rumsey, a junior from Columbus North, ran 23 minutes, 55.45 seconds for 6K (3.8 miles). She was the No. 12 runner for the Boilermakers, who were sixth as a team.

Former Jets help lead Hanover to runner-up finishes

HANOVER — Callie Swegman finished fourth Saturday to lead Hanover to a second-place finish in the Hanover Invitational.

Swegman, a junior from Hauser, ran 20 minutes, 38.7 seconds for 5K (3.1 miles).

Colin Kistler, a freshman from Hauser, took 17th in the 6K (3.8-mile) men’s race in 21:26.9. He was the No. 3 runner for the Panthers, who were second as a team.
