Linda L. McCreary

COLUMBUS

Linda L McCreary, a beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at her residence, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on December 30, 1942, in Waldron, Indiana, to James and Elizabeth Lamb, she is survived by her loving husband Matt McCreary and daughter, Tracy McCreary as well as her sisters Sue Tragenstein, Beverly Jones and brother Donald Lamb.

For 59 beautiful years, Linda shared her life with her soulmate, Matt McCreary. They embarked on their journey together on June 19th, 1965, in Shelbyville, Indiana, a testament to their enduring love and commitment. Linda’s dedication to her family extended to her cherished daughter, Tracy, who brought immense joy into her life.

Beyond her role as a wife and mother, Linda’s spirit of service extended far and wide. Before dedicating herself to motherhood, she honed her skills as a credit rater for H.P. Wasson &Co in Indianapolis and a bookkeeper clerk for Sap’s Donuts. This dedication to work later translated into countless volunteer hours, enriching the lives of many others. Linda’s contributions graced the halls of local schools, the Girl Scouts (where she was a Cookie Chairman), the backstage of community theater, and her cherished Parkside Baptist Church. Her passion for faith found expression in her roles as a Sunday School teacher and youth group leader, shaping young minds with love and wisdom.

Linda’s hands, as busy as her heart, found solace and joy in crocheting, crafting, and her masterful seamstress skills. She relished the opportunity to travel with Matt to New Jersey, where her daughter resides, and visit New York City. Shopping excursions and Broadway shows filled their trips with laughter and unforgettable memories.

Linda’s journey on earth was preceded by the passing of her parents and sisters: Marilyn Jean Fisher, Ann Straub, and Sandra Kay Watchel. Yet, her spirit lives on, woven into the fabric of the countless lives she touched. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering faith. Linda McCreary will be remembered as a guiding light whose warmth and kindness will continue to illuminate the lives of those who knew and loved her.
