Panther boys win own invite; East teams take fifth; Hauser boys sixth

VERNON — Kraedyn Young won the boys race Saturday to lead host Jennings County to the team title in its Ray Gerkin Invitational.

The Panthers slipped past Bedford North Lawrence 63-66. Columbus East finished fifth with 121 points, and Hauser was sixth with 141.

Young ran 15 minutes, 47.9 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles) at Muscatatuck Park. Cash Summers took 12th in 17:30.7, while Brock Maschino was 14th (17:40.7), Dawson Leak 15th (17:44.6) and Zachary Wahlman 21st (18:08.7).

Norman Dickson led the Olympians with a 13th-place finish in 17:31.7. Jackson Brookes took 22nd in 18:12.0, while Elijah Clore was 25th (18:26.5), Chance Knapp 39th (19:25.2) and Maddox Hult 41st (19:25.2).

Nolan Dailey finished fifth in 16:51.9 to lead the Jets. Mason Moore took 32nd in 18:56.5, while Koleson Gerentz was 35th (18:58.9), Braydon McFarland 37th (19:09.5) and Grady Niccum 48th (19:52.6).

In the girls race, Jennings finished fourth with 90 points, and East was fifth with 129. Seymour edged Charlestown 46-47 for the title.

Alaina Watts led the Panthers with a sixth-place finish in 21:41.4. Shelby Allen took 12th in 22:30.3, while Haley Vogel was 16th (22:50.8), Izabelle Miller 27th (23:48.6) and Avery Willhite 34th (24:28.2).

Madison Swartzentruber finished 17th in 22:53.1 to lead the Olympians. Amelia Fay took 31st in 24:21.4, while Delaney Rogers was 35th (24:29.8), Elizabeth Sztaba 36th (24:35.9) and Abigail Collins 44th (25:45.5).
