Landmark Columbus to have installation in parking garage

Columbus’ annual “exploration of community, architecture, art and design” will include one of the city’s parking garages next year.

The Columbus Redevelopment Commission on Monday voted to execute a contract with Landmark Columbus to locate one of the 2025 Exhibit Columbus exhibits at the city’s Jackson Street garage.

The fifth cycle of Exhibit Columbus, entitled Yes And, has design presentations scheduled for Feb. 21 and 22 next year, with the exhibitions set for Aug. 15 and 16 of 2025.

“Every cycle we work with a new set of curators and they pick some sites for the Miller Prize recipients,” Jamie Goldsborough, creative director, Landmark Columbus, told the commission. “They’ve identified the parking garage as a site of interest, which was interesting to us as well.”

“It is a central location downtown on Fourth Street, the entertainment area, so we think there’s some fun potential here,” Goldsborough continued.

The contract states that Landmark Columbus will pay for the installation of the exhibit, as well as the removal and any maintenance. It also says that no roads, hallways or parking spaces shall be impaired due to the exhibit, according to a copy of the agreement.

“It will be a process — we don’t know what the architect will design, what they’ll present to us, but of course we just want to work with someone (from) redevelopment, (Director of Redevelopment Heather Pope), someone from the city, to guide us through this process with the architect and throughout the design phase.”

The installation can be displayed any time after July 15, 2025, but must be fully installed on or before Aug. 14. The contract further specifies that the installation has to be removed between Nov. 30, 2025 and Dec. 31, 2025.

“The work Landmark does just really shines a light on a lot of our built infrastructure and I can’t think of any more beautiful piece of infrastructure in Columbus than our parking garage,” Commissioner Kyle Hendricks said.
