Jets snap losing skid, top Mohawks in four sets

Maley Jordan

HOPE — It looked like Hauser volleyball was going to make it a straight set victory Monday night, but Waldron didn’t let it happen.

After the Jets lost the third set, they responded in a big way to take their first Mid-Hoosier Conference win of the season with a 25-22, 25-16, 22-25, 25-14 win over the Mohawks.

“We refocused ourselves, and we reset ourselves to be able to take care of the first touch,” said Hauser coach Erica Raisor, “and especially on the serve-receive side to be able to run an offense or be able to put the ball in play. That’s what we focused in the huddle (after the third set) to be able to go back out and finish the fourth set.”

The Jets (4-17, 1-2) and Waldron were tight in the opening set. It was tied at 10-10 until Maley Jordan served up several aces during a 7-0 run, and Hauser eventually took the first set.

The serving again helped balloon the lead for the Jets in the second set. Jordan and Leah Manley served up 15 of the first 16 points of the set. Hauser then rotated the lineup around and eventually took a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Jets led 20-15 in the third set until the Mohawks went on a 10-2 run to capture the set.

In the fourth set, Hauser led 13-5, but the Mohawks climbed back to cut it to 17-14 until the Jets scored eight straight points to take the match.

Charleston Gelfius

Jordan finished with 11 aces, 10 digs and three assists for Hauser. Charleston Gelfius had 10 blocks, four kills, three aces and two assists, and Manley added six aces and five assists.

Also for the Jets, Kaysie Kistler notched five aces and two kills. Regan Mack tallied five assists and three digs; Kaidenze Shoaf had seven kills and three digs; Baylee Riley had five digs, one ace and one assist and Aleigha Wickliffe added one block.

“Waldron being where I came from originally when I started coaching and (Waldron coach) Brittanie (Wallace) was one of my former players, so it is always a nice, competitive game with people you know,” Raisor said.
