2014

The Mill Race Marathon Kids Fun Run saw a record 1,150 children race to the finish line. Kids as young as toddlers and as old as elementary school ran in the race.

1999

Columbus North High School’s The Sound of North Band placed second in Class A competition at the Greenwood High School Marching Band Invitational. The Olympian Spirit from Columbus East High School received a participation award in Class B competition.

1974

The Republic began offering a college course titled “In Search of The American Dream,” which was an 18-part series published on a once-a-week basis. Pulitzer Prize-winning author Robert Penn Warren wrote two articles for the course.
