High wind warning issued for Bartholomew County this afternoon, evening

Bartholomew County Emergency Management issued an update on weather conditions as the county experiences the remnants of Hurricane Helene today and Saturday.

  • There is a slight risk for excessive rainfall and flash flooding
  • High Wind WARNING from noon to 11 p.m. Friday. Sustained winds between 30-35 mph.  Peak wind gusts between 45-60 mph with the potential for isolated higher gusts may result in power outages.
  • Wind gusts over 60 mph possible between 3 and 9 p.m. Friday.
  • River flooding is not expected due to abnormally dry soil, but efficient rainfall rates may lead to localized flash flooding across southern portions of central Indiana.
  • Unsecured objects may blow around, and difficult driving for high profile vehicles.

Actions/What To Do:

  • Be weather aware.
  • Have multiple ways to receive weather information and warnings.
  • Have a safety plan in place and be ready to act when severe weather is imminent.
  • Slow down when driving.  Heavy rainfall can decrease visibility.
  • Do NOT drive through flooded roadways.
