Jets win Heritage Days Classic; CC, SD, Edinburgh, Trinity also run

HOPE — Hauser’s boys cross-country team won its second invitational in three days Saturday by capturing its Hope Heritage Days Classic.

The Jets scored 40 points, with Indy Genesis edging Oldenburg Academy 68-69 for second. Columbus Christian finished sixth with 143 points.

Nolan Dailey led Hauser with a second-place finish in 17 minutes, 56.6 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles). Koleson Gernentz took eighth in 18:36.7, while Mason Moore was 10th (19:09.3), Max Moore 12th (19:09.3) and Braydon McFarland 14th (19:22.2).

Ben Halsey finished 27th in 21:53.6 to lead Columbus Christian., Justin Schlaudroff took 33rd in 22:34.3, while Trae Short was 34th (22:46.9), Roman Sanchez 44th (25:44.9) and Zander Stephens 50th (26:59.7).

Trinity Lutheran had two boys runners. Oliver Eggersman finished seventh in 18:31.6, and Stephen Trager was 36th in 23:20.7.

South Decatur had three boys runners. Nicholas Hunter finished 11th in 19:05.7, Josh Chastain took 45th in 25:57.4 and Luke Poling was 53rd in 29:27.1.

On the girls side, Trinity, South Decatur, Columbus Christian and Edinburgh had individuals competing. Trinity’s Cheyenne Campbell finished eighth in 23:26.7, and Emma Mellencamp was 23rd in 28:08.2.

South Decatur’s Kenzie Stone, Bri Benefiel and Andrea Brogan finished 17th, 18th and 19th in 26:31.4, 26:37.4 and 26:38.6. Brooklyn Ortman was 27th in 29:28.7.

Columbus Christian’s Ellie Schlaudroff finished 22nd in 28:06.8. Edinburgh’s Shyleigh Gobel and Emilee Cox were 28th and 29th in 29:41.4 and 32:31.5.
