Bonnie Jean Speer Kelly, 94, of North Vernon passed away at 5:04 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Majestic Care.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at Sawyer – Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. Rev. Dale Boyd will officiate. Interment will be in Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.

Born August 5, 1930, in North Vernon, Bonnie was the daughter of Willard and Nettie Campfield Speer. She married Jack David Kelly on October 9, 1953. He preceded her in death on April 26, 1997.

She worked at Decatur County Hospital as executive housekeeper for two years. She retired from Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in 1993 after almost thirty-five years of service as an attendant and executive housekeeper.

Bonnie was a member of the First Baptist Church, Ladies Auxillary of the Eagles, Ladies of the Moose, Senior Resource Center, and sixty plus years member of Order of Eastern Star.

She loved all types of music except Rap music.

She is survived by her daughter, Debbie (Pete) Gerth of North Vernon; four grandchildren, Kelly (Gary) Kreutzjans, Melissa (Scotty( Browning, David (Jessica) Ritz, Rachel (Billie) Willhite; nine great-grandchildren, Eliza, Jack, Sam Kreutzjans, Lauren, Lexi Halbert, Hanna Willhite, Bristol Ritz, Claire and Kayle Carter; step-sister, Sheila (Joe) Crehan of Naples, FL, two step-brothers, Paul (Shirley) Anderson, John (Carol) Anderson of Columbus; two nieces, Sandy Cantrell of Columbus, Marilyn Prichard of Washington; nephews, Ron and Eddie Speer of California; sister-in-law, Ann Speer o New York.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, step-father, Lloyd Anderson; half-brothers, Edgar and Kenneth Speer; half-sister, Edith Speer; step-brother, Wesley Anderson; son, Stephen and daughter, Pamela.

Memorials may be made in Bonnie’s memory to Our Hospice of Jennings County, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Shrine Children’s Hospital, or Riley Hospital for Children.
