North boys take second, girls fifth in loaded Twilight meet

TERRE HAUTE — Columbus North’s boys finished second, and the Bull Dog girls took fifth against most of the state’s top teams and others from out-of-state in the championship races of Saturday night’s Nike Valley Twilight at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, site of the state finals.

No. 3-ranked Bloomington North won the 46-team Boys Championship meet with 169 points to 219 for No. 4 Columbus North, 233 for No. 1 Brownsburg, 294 for both No. 2 Noblesville and Cincinnati St. Xavier, 307 for St. Louis University and 337 for No. 5 Carmel.

Neal White led the Bull Dogs with a 33rd-place finish in 15 minutes, 37.98 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles). Jace Works took 41st in 15:45.20, while Logan Vanzant was 50th (15:50.34), Jonny Klaus 57th (15:53.36), Evan Bense 79th (16:05.19), Denton Sluder 93rd (16:11.19), Draven Martinez 111th (16:19.06), Graham Pumphrey 125th (16:23.50) and Justin Reckers 127th (16:24.07).

Hauser’s Nolan Dailey, competing as an individual, finished 134th in 16:26.73.

No. 1 Carmel won the Girls Championship meet with 172 points to 197 for Mt. Prospect (Illinois), 253 for No. 8 Brebeuf Jesuit, 254 for No. 6 Noblesville, 257 for No. 5 Columbus North, 272 for No. 12 North Central and 274 for No. 3 Homestead.

Macy Eaton

Macy Eaton finished 51st in 19:04.84 to lead the Bull Dogs. Ainsley Sherlock took 53rd in 19:07.09, while Carys Glyn-Jones was 59th (19:09.93), Tristan Works 74th (19:21.68), Kyleigh Wolf 82nd (19:27.19), Emma Lowther 109th (19:40.78), Kodi Smith 147th (20:01.51), Rendy Zhohg 166th (20:10.20) and Adira Sluder 170th (20:13.08).

Meanwhile, the rest of the Hauser boys finished 21st in the Boys Open Blue 1 race. Koleson Gernentz took 105th in 18:31.76, while Max Moore was 131st (18:49.32), Mason Moore 137th (18:52.12), Braydon McFarland 149th (18:58.48) and Grady Niccum 214th (19:47.26).
