Bernard A. Day

TRAFALGAR

Bernard A. “Bernie” Day 77 of Trafalgar passed from this life on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at Cedar Creek of Franklin. He was born on Sunday, December 8, 1946 in North Vernon, Indiana to Raymond and Marie (Scherschlight) Day.

Bernie graduated from North Vernon High School in 1964 and joined the Navy on March 15, 1966. He served his time in Vietnam earning the National Defense Service Metal, Vietnam Service Metal with 1 Bronze Star and the Republic Of Vietnam Campion Medal With Device. He received an Honorable Discharge on November 5, 1969. He returned to Indiana and started working at Cummins and became a team leader at Plant #1 retiring after 34 years of employment on 01/01/2004.

Bernie was an avid outdoorsman and really enjoyed, fishing, hunting, off roading, racing drag cars, jeeps and hill climbing. He was competitive muzzle loading champion at Friendship, Fish Creek and in Michigan. He was a member of A.B.A.T.E. an Avid Harley Rider. Of all these things the most enjoyable was his love for his family and spending time with them especially, his kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews. He had a story for everyone.

Bernie married the love of his life Linda Ann Waltz on December 17, 1975 and she preceded him in death on December 14, 2021.

Surviving Bernie is his son Jason (Melissa) Day, Sr. of North Carolina, his daughters Stacey (Brian) Hammack of Columbus, Heather McVicar of Trafalgar, his brothers, Jim (Peggy) Day, Norman “Butch” (Joyce) Day, his sister LaTisha “Tish” Gossman, his grandchildren, Hanna (Jayden) Perry, Parker Hammack, Jason “JB” Day, Jr and Willow McVicar, and 1 great grandson Oliver Perry. Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Linda and brothers, Raymond “Pete” Day and Gerald “Jake” Day and a sister Carol “Sis” Moore.

A Celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday October 15, 2024 at Indiana Memorial Trafalgar Chapel 300 W. 300S at State Road 135 at 12 Noon, Friends may call on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until time of services at the funeral home. Franklin American Legion Post #205 will conduct Military Honors after the services at the funeral home.
