SEYMOUR — Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge and its Wildlife Society will host Log Cabin Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the refuge, 12987 E. U.S. Highway 50.
The event is free and features family-friendly activities at the Myers Family Cabin and Barn.
Visitors will learn about pioneer and farm life in the 1880s.
Activities will include old-time music by Allie Jean & Friends, historic storytelling, a Myers Cabin tour, pioneer demonstrations, blacksmithing, Chore-Corral where kids try chores from yesteryear, shuttle rides to the refuge’s closed area and a free ham and bean lunch cooked on an open fire with homemade cornbread.
Log Cabin Day kicks off National Wildlife Refuge Week, Oct. 13-19, where visitors may explore hiking trails, lakes, birding, wildlife and fall colors, along with the nature center and bookstore and gift shop.
