Logan Haston, who guided Columbus North to a 35-34 double-overtime win over Bloomington North on Friday, has been named the Indianapolis Colts/NFL Coach of the Week for Week 8.

Haston learned of the honor Sunday night from Indiana Football Digest publisher and Regional Radio Sports Network president Paul Condry, who runs the Colts Coach of the Week nominations and voting.

“I was very surprised,” Haston said. “I received a phone call, and I assumed it was just about the sectional draw. It took me by surprise. I am honored and humbled by it.”

Haston has led the Bull Dogs to a 7-1 record and a No. 8 ranking in Class 6A. He is 17-13 overall in his third season at North, his first head coaching job.

All high school head coaches in the state are eligible regardless of their school size, league or division. Coaches are evaluated on various factors including the coach’s impact on the team, school and community, as well as the team’s performance. The honorees are selected by a panel of football media, former athletics directors and other football representatives from across the state.

At the conclusion of the high school season, each winning coach will receive a $1,000 donation from the NFL Foundation, as well as a commemorative plaque. Corteva Agriscience will contribute an additional $1,000 to the school’s athletic fund and Certor Sports will issue a $1,000 helmet credit to each winning program’s athletic department.

“It’s a huge honor,” Haston said. “But ultimately, it’s about the kids and our coaching staff. It takes a lot of people doing their job. I’m really proud of our young men for the commitment they’ve put into this season and our coaching staff for the dedication that they’ve put in.”
