Columbus North and Columbus East already have clinched at least a share of their conference football titles, but they aren’t satisified with just a share.

The Class 6A No. 8 Bull Dogs and Olympians will try to finish undefeated in their respective conference and win outright titles on Friday night. North visits Terre Haute South, and East travels to Bedford North Lawrence.

“We don’t want to share it. We want to win the thing outright,” East coach Eddie Vogel said. “We’re going to do our best to go over to Bedford and take care of business.”

BNL (1-7, 1-4) has struggled this season, with its only win coming at Jennings County, the team it will play in the first round of the sectional next week. The Stars fell 47-18 at Madison last week.

The Olympians (5-3, 5-0) have won five of six following an 0-2 start. They routed Jeffersonville 52-6 on Friday.

“It was probably the most complete game we’ve played in the past few years,” Vogel said. “We were able to get on them early in all phases and had it wrapped up by halftime. So we were able to get some of our underclassmen in the game.”

North (7-1, 4-0) is coming off a dramatic 35-34 double-overtime win against 5A No. 5 Bloomington North. The Bull Dogs stopped a potential game-winning 2-point conversion attempt in the second OT period.

“We’re really happy with clinching a share of the conference, but we’re not satisfied with just a share. We want to win the whole thing,” North coach Logan Haston said. “I think the guys are excited this week because there’s a chance to go be outright champs.”

Terre Haute South (2-5, 2-2) has shown an ability to put up points this season, but also has given up a lot of points. Two weeks ago, they fell 83-65 at Brebeuf Jesuit. Last week, they beat Southport 30-6.

“Their record is not indicitave of the quality they have,” Haston said. “We know they’re a good football team. It’s not a game we can overlook. They can put up points certainly on offense.”
