Saint Mary-of-the-Woods sweeps Crimson Pride

WEST TERRE HAUTE — IU Columbus lost a River States Conference soccer doubleheader Thursday at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, dropping the women’s game 4-0 and the men’s contest 5-3.

Justin Sylva, a freshman from Columbus East, scored his first career goal, and Christian Cardoso, a freshman from Columbus North, added a goal for the Crimson Pride men (4-9-2, 0-5-1). Jon Michael Bright netted the other goal for IUC. Rex Randy and Angel Roque had assists.

The Pomeroys outshot the Crimson Pride 22-10, putting 14 shots on goal to IUC’s eight. Jacob Kasarda recorded nine saves.

In the women’s game, SWMC outshot the Crimson Pride 18-9, putting 11 shots on goal to four for IUC (2-9-1, 0-6). Columbus North graduate Mallory Gilley posted five saves.

The Crimson Pride women and men will play Saturday afternoon at Oakland City.
