Eagles hold on to edge Mustangs

NASHVILLE — Brown County jumped out to a 14-3 halftime lead Friday and held on for a 20-18 win against Edgewood to close the regular season.

The Mustangs had the ball inside the Eagles 15-yard like with two minutes left in the game. But Kyle Cobb forced a fumble, and Jesse Hubbard recovered, and Brown County (5-4) was able to run out the clock.

Trailing 3-0, the Eagles scored on a 30-yard pass on a reverse, with AJ Bell hitting Kody Shugars. Quarterback Noah Lewis then ran for a touchdown and found Shugars for the 2-point conversion.

After Edgewood scored to cut the lead to 14-11, Landon Scott returned the ensuing kickoff 85 yards for a score.

Brown County will host Mitchell Oct. 25 in the first round of the sectional.
