Carol Ahlbrand

COLUMBUS

Carol Ahlbrand, 95, of Columbus, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Carol was born October 12, 1929 in Columbus to Altus H. and Nannine (Doup) Parker. Carol met John Edgar Ahlbrand and married in 1950. They went on to live in Columbus, Connecticut, Pennsylvanian, Long Island, NY, and finally back to Columbus in 2007.

During the years, Carol and John had three sons, John Michael, Stephen Matthew and Bradley Jon. Carol volunteered at a local hospital while living on Long Island and became an accomplished artist. Her favorite style being impressionism and her inspiration came mainly from John and Carol’s many journeys to Europe. Carol’s love of Italy became a focus of her art. Carol belonged to an art group, taking art classes, visiting many art museums and participated in many art shows in and around New York City. Carols “art family” remained lifelong friends after moving back to Columbus.

Carol and John’s grandchildren Katie, Nicole, Vince and Cecelia all loved visiting them in New York with all the fun activities there.

As she certainly missed her community in New York, Carol loved being close to family back in Columbus. She moved back to the actual property where she was born and grew up.

Coming back to Columbus she was able to entertain and cook for her family and friends … trying new recipes, as she also loved to cook and bake!

Carol certainly enjoyed watching her three great grandchildren grow up. As two of them lived in Australia (Lincoln and Claudia) their visits throughout the years were so special to her! The third great grandchild (Ava) lived closer so Carol was able to attend school functions and attend Ava’s basketball games!

The many people that were touched by knowing Carol knew that knowing her was to love her! That’s who she was!!

Preceding her in death were her husband, John Edgar Ahlbrand; parents, Altus H. and Nannine Ahlbrand; sister, Harriett McNeal; and half-sisters, Irene Gratzer and Margaret Peak.

Carrying on her memory are her loving children, John Michael Ahlbrand of Rollinsville, CO, Matt (Ferrell) Ahlbrand of Columbus, and Bradley Jon (Christine) Ahlbrand of Columbus; grandchildren, Katie (Mark) Fabis of Pittstown, Australia, Nicole (Chad) Reitmeyer of Bloomington, Cecelia (Patrick) Rau of Richmond, CA, and Vincent Rimoldi of Los Angeles, CA; great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Claudia Fabis, Ava Reitmeyer, and Lily and Eddie Rau. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Carol’s life is being planned for December and will be announced at a later date.

Memorials in her name are suggested to Columbus Animal Care Services or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
