HARTSVILLE
Sandra Kay Beck Spangler, 83, of Hartsville, passed peacefully into eternal life, surrounded by her family,
where she was welcomed by her Savior Jesus and many loved ones who had gone before her. Born July
31, 1941 in Shelbyville, IN Sandra was the daughter of Wilford “Bud” and Lillian Pope Bishop and sister
to Tom Bishop.
She was first married to Donald “Joe” Beck on June 24, 1961 until his death in 1982. She was the Mother
to Shari Lentz and Debra Beck-Settle. Sandra married David Spangler on August 16, 1996. They were
married until his death in 2022.
She is survived by her daughters, Shari (Bill) Lentz of Columbus and Debra Beck Settle of Columbus;
step daughters, Misty (John) Henderson of Columbus and Tiffany Davis of Columbus; grandchildren,
Aaron (Cora) Lentz of Columbus, Ashley (Eric) Fults of Columbus, Tucker Settle of Newburgh and
Seleah Settle of Columbus; Zachary (Michelle) Flynn of Columbus, Shane Henderson of Columbus,
Nathan Henderson of Columbus, Madison Henderson of Columbus, Cassidy Davis of Round Rock, TX,
Reece Davis of Greenwood; great-grandchildren, Everett and Wells Lentz, Annie, George, and Benjamin
Fults, and Ira Flynn; brother, Tom (Dottie) Bishop of Phoenix, AZ and several nieces and nephews.
Everyone who met Sandra felt instantly welcomed and cherished in her presence. Her deep love for her
family and friends was apparent in every interaction, and her devotion to them was unwavering.
Sandra’s faith in Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of her life. She not only followed Him but also wanted
others to know and love Him as she did. Her children, grandchildren, and all who knew her can testify to
her lifelong commitment to her Savior, which brings them comfort and joy in knowing she is now with
Jesus. For many years, Sandra worshiped, served and led in various ministries such as Hope Moravian
Church, where her impact was felt through her deep involvement in the Journey through Faith ministry. In
the last decade, she became a devoted member of Athens Church, where she found a church family that
was a blessing to her and one that she was blessing to in return.
Sandra’s love for people extended far beyond her family. For over 30 years, she led Bible studies in
Hartsville with a group of dear friends, guiding and inspiring countless women in their walks with God.
As a beautician since 1961, she ran a beauty shop out of her home, where her clients became more like
family. She shared laughter, love, and wisdom while working on their hair, and her shop became a place
of comfort and joy for many.
She also had a tender heart for animals, always taking special care of them, treating them as part of her
family. Sandra was the type of person who was always there when needed?whether to deliver a meal,
lend a listening ear, or offer her care to a neighbor or friend.
Above all, Sandra was fun-loving, always ready for a good time and bringing joy to every gathering. She
had a knack for making the ordinary moments special, and her presence lit up any room she walked into.
Her laughter and spirit will be missed deeply by all who knew her, but her legacy of love, faith, and
generosity will certainly live on in the lives of those she touched.
A funeral for Sandra will be Saturday, October 26 at 1:00 PM at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with
Sandra’s grandson Pastor Aaron Lentz officiating. Visitation will be 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral
home. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery.
