Larry Duane Ashley

Larry Duane Ashley, 84, of Columbus, met his lord and savior at 4:43 a.m. on October 28, 2024, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Larry was born August 6, 1940, in Effingham, Illinois the son of William Jasper and Nellie Mabel (Haney) Ashley. He married Virginia Lee McClintic on July 30, 1961.

Larry graduated from Effingham High School in 1959 and worked for Cummins Engine Company for 33 years. He was a die-hard Cubs fan who loved to play softball, bowling, and Golf. Larry was an avid board and card game player, who liked to have fun and go on adventures. He enjoyed traveling to the west and has visited many places including the Grand Canyon and Navajo Reservation. Larry attended Edinburgh Church of the Nazarene where he became close friends and shared many memories at the Blackerby’s Hangar 5 with Pastor Jim Hudson. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in high school and college activities and loved being a great-grandfather. Larry will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

The funeral will be at 12:00 p.m. Monday, November 4, 2024, at Jewell Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Hudson officiating. Calling will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Bridges of Peace.

Survivors include wife, Virginia Ashley; son, Scott Hamilton (Melissa Kay) Ashley; sisters, Joyce Shull and Mabel Ann Hess; grandchildren, Sylvia Marie (Adam Jonathon) Wolka and Ethan Wallace Ashley; and great-grandchild, Adelaide Grace Wolka.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mabel Ashley; brothers, William, Ronald, and Terry Ashley; and sisters, Shirley Fowler and Carol Jean Franklin.

Services were entrusted to the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
