COLUMBUS
Phyllis Maxine Hamilton passed away on the morning of October 24, 2024.
She was born September 14, 1934, in Columbus, Indiana, the daughter of Archie and Mabel Sharp Foist.
Maxine was a devout Christian, a cherished neighbor, a dedicated mother, and a proud grandmother whose legacy lives on through the lives she touched. Maxine carried an air of optimism and joy that spread to everyone around her through her contagious laughter and boundless generosity.
Spending her youth working on the family farm instilled in Maxine a work ethic that carried her through a successful career as a real estate agent. When not working, she was happiest spending time with her family, attending church, or honing her skills on the golf course. An avid golfer, Maxine was a former member of the Harrison Lake Country Club, where she actively participated in women’s golf and the junior golf program. She found enjoyment cheering on the Colts, Pacers, and Fever. She was a proud member of the Delta Theta Tau sorority for over fifty years.
During her years in Spring, Texas, she became a trusted leader and friend at Cypress Creek Christian Church, dedicating herself to service and sharing the Bible’s teachings. Scripture guided her throughout her life, and she felt called to spread the word. Above all, family was Maxine’s greatest treasure. She was the beloved “Nana” her grandchildren adored.
Survivors include her children, Peggy J. (Jerome) Dell, Cynthia A. Hamilton, Scott L. (Tempest) Hamilton and Brian M. Hamilton; grandchildren, Kristina Dell, Allison Ford, Ryan (Anne) Dell, Marie Hamilton, Charles Hamilton, William Hamilton and Courtney Johnson; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Kermit Foist; and sisters, Pauline Hall and Geraldine Parks.
In keeping with Maxine’s wishes, cremation will take place.
A private graveside service will take place at Garland Brook Cemetery.
