McLemore case settled for $7.25 million in Jackson County lawsuit

BROWNSTOWN, Ind. — Jackson County has agreed to a $7.25 million settlement to resolve a federal civil rights lawsuits filed by the surviving relative of an inmate suffering from an acute mental health crisis who died in 2021 after spending 20 days in solitary confinement at the Jackson County Jail, according to an attorney involved in the case.

Feds seek forfeiture of over 1,000 guns from Jennings County man

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Federal prosecutors are seeking the forfeiture of just more than 1,000 guns, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and an SUV from a Jennings County man who has been accused of selling hundreds of thousands of dollars in firearms without a license to two individuals who allegedly arranged to transport the weapons to Mexico.

INDIANAPOLIS — Applications are open for 2024 Indiana Senate Page Program. Students in grades six through 12 will have the opportunity to tour Indiana’s Statehouse, listen to debates, help staff with age-appropriate tasks and meet their state senator through the full-day program.

Legal Aid to have phone clinic

Legal Aid will have a free Legal Aid Phone Clinic for residents of its eight-county district on Tuesday. The district includes Bartholomew, Brown, Decatur, Jackson, Jennings, Johnson, Rush, and Shelby counties. The phone clinic will be from 3 to 5:30 p.m. though registration is required between noon and 2 p.m.
